Christopher Nkunku sends injury message as £50m Chelsea transfer target Ivan Toney gets FA charge

Your morning Chelsea transfer round-up on Thursday, November 17.

Nkunku injury message

Chelsea have a pre-agreement to sign RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku in 2023 but the possibility of completing a deal early has been damaged after the Frenchman suffered an injury on international duty.

The 25-year-old was due to kick off France's World Cup next week but has instead had to be withdrawn from Didier Deschamps' 26-man squad due to a knee sprain on the eve of the tournament.

Although he may be able to recover before January, the length to which he is out could impact how Chelsea act. It is believed that Todd Boehly is keen on bringing the deal forward from next summer to January, but the prospects of that may now not be realistic.

After the announcement of his injury, Nkunku posted a message on social media saying: "Yesterday evening, following medical examinations, I had to leave Les Bleus and forfeit the World Cup.

"Now it's time to work with one and only objective: to come back even stronger."

Endrick timescale

Chelsea will have a clearer image as to how likely they are to sign Brazilian wonderkid Endrick come the end of the month.

The 16-year-old is a target for a host of Europe's top clubs but the Blues are one of the parties going the extra mile to persuade him to join when a deal can be agreed in 2023.

Although he can't move clubs until he turns 18 - in 2024 - Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all doing their best to gain an advantage in the proceedings.

Endrick's dad, Douglas, has now said that after the trip to Cobham earlier this month, they will be visiting Madrid and will then make a decision as to whether a bid is worthwhile.

Ivan Toney charged by FA

Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who was linked with a late £50m move to Chelsea over the summer, has been charged with breaching FA Betting rules.

The 26-year-old missed out on England's World Cup squad after being left off of Gareth Southgate's 26-man list ahead of the 2022 tournament in Qatar and has now been charged with 232 breaches of the rules.

Toney has until November 24 to provide a response to the charge relating to multiple breaches which were committed between February 25 2017 and January 23 2021. He played for Scunthorpe, Wigan, Peterborough and Brentford during that time.
