Christopher Nkunku’s favoured position could cause Graham Potter another headache ahead of Chelsea signing

Christopher Nkunku has told Chelsea his best position ahead of his summer arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The club have already wrapped up a £53m move for the France forward and will complete a deal to sign him at the end of the season.

Nkunku will join an already stacked squad in west London, bolstered by the January signings of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Joao Felix also arrived on loan and it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea will make his move permanent this summer, while Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Armando Broja and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also competing for positions.

Chelsea have been questioned for not signing a recognised central striker, particularly with Aubameyang facing a potential exit.

Nkunku has previously operated in that role, although it appears the 25-year-old sees himself as more of an attacking midfielder.

That, of course, could provide another headache for Potter who has already had to make big selection calls.

Speaking to Football Manager, the RB Leipzig forward said: “I think that (attacking midfield) is a position that suits me well. Close to the goal behind a striker.

“That describes me as a player nicely so I always like playing in this role.”
