Christopher Nkunku 'happy' with Todd Boehly transfer proposal amid 'secret' Chelsea medical

Chelsea have sent a proposal to RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku after the Frenchman completed a 'secret' medical ahead of a potential transfer.

Nkunku was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the summer transfer window before signing a new contract with the Bundesliga outfit which runs until 2026. Leipzig have protected their position in the transfer market and can now demand a significant fee for the French forward with the Blues currently at the front of the queue to sign the 24-year-old next summer.

Todd Boehly will be keen to support new head coach Graham Potter in the upcoming transfer windows as he looks to lower the overall age of the playing squad, and Nkunku is thought to be the priority target to add to Chelsea's attacking options next summer.

When asked about the Blues' interest in the RB Leipzig star and whether a medical had already taken place, Potter responded: "My answer to that type of stuff, unless it's a player for us I don't really speak about other players. So, no comment."

Leipzig have already agreed a deal to sign highly-rated youngster Benjamin Sesko next summer after the Slovenian striker had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. This could help the Blues secure a deal for Nkunku with a ready-made replacement already set to join the Bundesliga outfit next summer.

The 24-year-old is thought to have a £56million release clause in his new contract and Chelsea owner Todd Boehly could make it his first job of next year's summer transfer window to activate that and bring Nkunku to west London. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his exclusive CaughtOffside column that Chelsea have sent RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku a proposal that the French forward is 'happy' with.

Romano said: “We’ve had a lot of stories about Christopher Nkunku in the last 24-48 hours. It’s normal, he’s a top player, and some big clubs are involved, so what’s really going on? From what I’m told, Nkunku has had a medical with Chelsea – it was not a personal medical, Chelsea staff were there, and it was for Chelsea Football Club."

Nkunku has already scored eight goals so far this season after registering a whopping 55 goal contributions in 52 appearances last term. Despite a medical already being completed and personal terms seemingly not being an issue, a deal is still far from being finalised.

“This doesn’t mean it’s a done deal, the medical took place a few weeks ago, and Chelsea have sent a proposal to the player, which he’s happy with. But with RB Leipzig, there is still work to do on an agreement.

“I’m told that Chelsea will try to discuss a fee with Leipzig, before activating the clause in June 2023; so it’s possible they will discuss different price tag or payment terms. As of now, Chelsea are pushing and are leading the race, also on the player’s side.”

Chelsea allowed Timo Werner to return to Leipzig in the summer transfer window after the German forward endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge. Boehly and Potter will be hoping Nkunku doesn't suffer a similar fate if he does complete a move to the Blues next summer.
