Christopher Jullien seals Celtic transfer exit as he returns to France with Ligue 1 outfit

Christopher Jullien has left Celtic for a return to France.

The big defender - snapped up from Toulouse for £7million under Neil Lennon back in 2019 - has made the switch back to the French top flight with Montpellier as he begins a new chapter in his career. The 29-year-old has struggled for game time in the past six months since making his return from a long-term injury.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt struck up a defensive bond at the heart of Ange Postecoglou's backline last term and the Frenchman was unable to dislodge the pair. Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh have since moved ahead of him in the pecking order with a new challenge now secured. His Celtic contract had entered the final 12 months. Early this summer a move to the Bundesliga with Schalke broke down, but there has been no problems this time around.

Jullien won everything on offer domestically in Scottish football during his time at the club and scored a League Cup Final winner against Rangers in December 2019.

The stopper made 62 appearances in all competitions for Celtic scoring an impressive ten goals.
