Christopher Jullien in post-Celtic season one word response as team-mate hails Parkhead 'confidence'

Christopher Jullien has branded his first season away from Celtic as 'blah'.

The French defender is settling in to life after Parkhead at Montpellier after he was seemingly deemed surplus to requirements in Glasgow. Jullien was ruled out with a devastating knee injury in late 2020 that saw him miss 14 months of action. In the interim, the Frenchman found new signings Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt taking the key roles in the starting eleven under Ange Postecoglou.

Jullien admitted that he learned a lot from the Aussie boss but that the two 'didn't click' before he returned to France. The 30-year-old made 62 appearances at Parkhead and won a few trophies but admits his first season back hasn't been sparkling.

The centre-half has 24 appearances for the mid table side but feels negative results haven't shown him in the best light so far.

On his season, he told Montpellier's official website: “To be completely honest, I would say “blah”. I always gave the maximum but I must admit that I was not at the top in some matches, far from it.

"When you go through periods when you're less well, it's not easy but it's even less so when the collective isn't at its best either. Today, since collectively we are better, the individualities stand out better and it's always easier.

"Conversely, when there are negative results, you concede a lot of goals and you are a defender, it is always difficult. Let's say that the serenity I feel today I would have liked to bring it as soon as I arrived, but I couldn't find what I needed.

"What is certain, however, is that today I feel more comfortable and I think it shows on the pitch and at team level."

Jullien's team-mate, Issiaga Sylla, who he played with at Toulouse and has now partnered up with back at Montpellier, admits he watched the Frenchman's Parkhead spell with keen eyes.

He added: "When he left for Celtic, I followed him quite a bit because he's someone I like.

"At the beginning of his adventure there, I felt he was really confident and I feel that same confidence when I find him here. He has matured in his game, he makes few errors in recovery in particular.

"It's a pleasure to be his teammate again."
