Christopher Eccleston will reflect on the success of Our Friends in the North in a BBC special tonight.
In Christopher Eccleston Remembers – Our Friends in the North, the Dr Who star looks back on the 1996 drama set in Newcastle where he made his name. The BBC will then air the first three episodes of the first series on Wednesday evening and early on Thursday morning, before showing the next three episodes the following week.
BAFTA-winning Our Friends in the North, by Peter Flannery, follows the lives of four friends in Newcastle between the mid 1960s and mid-1990s.

The BBC says: "To mark the rescreening of Our Friends in the North, as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations, Christopher Eccleston looks back on Peter Flannery’s acclaimed 1996 drama. Following the lives of four friends from Newcastle over a period of three decades, the series struck a chord with the nation’s viewers and turned its young cast into household names."
As well as Eccleston, Our Friends in the North also helped launch the career of Daniel Craig, who later starred as James Bond. Mark Strong, Gina McKee, Peter Vaughan and Freda Dowie also feature in the cast.
Christopher Eccleston Remembers – Our Friends in the North airs from 10pm on BBC Four, followed by episode one of the first series at 10.10pm. The second episode follows at 11.20pm and the third at 12.25am. The special and reruns will then be available to watch on iPlayer.
Our Friends in the North has also been readapted for Radio 4.
