Christmas Toy Appeal comes to a close and looks set to be another phenomenal year with a mass of donations

A mass of donations to the Hamilton Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal looks set to ensure another bumper year all round.

In the last six weeks, we have taken delivery of literally hundreds of toys and gifts from individuals and organisations across the West of Scotland, and all in aid of South Lanarkshire’s neediest families.

Starting off the week was Blantyre Old Parish Church who, once again, donated more than 20 bags of presents.

Then we had over 100 gifts from gym members at the Fighting Scots Gym in Bellshill, and the same again from members of Mecca Bingo in Hamilton who answered our plea for help and kindly purchased a brand new toy or gift for needy children across our county.

We then received a fantastic donation of toys from the staff at Ascensos call centre in Motherwell, before also taking in bags of toys from staff and customers at Bank of Scotland’s Hamilton branch.

Montessori Nursery in Bothwell and Hamilton Grammar also offered us huge support again, as well as dozens of customers at both of the town's Starbucks who handed in gifts. there was also a cash donation from Jordan Smith, director of Lanarkshire firm, JRC Jordan Roofing.

The goodies will now be picked up by South Lanarkshire Council’s team of hardworking social work staff and their partner agencies who will then distribute a bag full of toys, gifts and sweets to every parent/carer on their lists in time for them to wrap up for Christmas Day.

We also supply every family with Sellotape, wrapping paper, gift bags and batteries for the gifts if required.

Advertiser editor Robert Mitchell said: “The good people of Lanarkshire never fail to impress with their kindness and it really does help those in need come Christmas Day.

“It’s lovely that we’re also able to give gifts to other local agencies who help and support disadvantaged children in their communities.

“We can only do this thanks to unwavering support we receive every year from our fantastic readers.”
