If you need any last minute or emergency DIY essentials over the Christmas period, this handy guide will be useful to find out the opening times for some major stores.
Some retailers are open on Boxing Day and New Year's Day but there are a few that will be closing their doors. This is a list of the opening hours for stores including B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, The Range and IKEA.
Not all retailers have released their Christmas opening times as yet but here's what we know so far, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

B&Q
B&Q will be open on Christmas Eve but only until 4pm and will then shut for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. They will re-open on December 27 and normal opening times will commence right up until New Year's Eve on December 31, when they will close their stores at 4pm.
The rest of their seasonal opening hours are as follows:
- Sunday, January 1 (all stores except Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey & Guernsey) - 10am - 4pm
- Sunday, January 1 (Northern Ireland only) - 1pm-6pm
- Sunday, January 1 ( Scotland, Jersey & Guernsey only) - closed
- Monday, January 2 - 9am-6pm
- Tuesday, January 3 (excluding Scotland) - normal opening hours
- Tuesday, January 3 (Scotland only) - 9am-6pm.
Wickes
Home improvement retailer Wickes will be closed for three days over the festive period. The retailer will shut over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day and will re-open to the public on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
For New Year's Day Wickes will be open in England and Wales until 4pm but stores in Scotland will be closed. The New Year’s bank holiday falls on Monday, January 2, and stores in England and Wales will open as they normally would but Wickes will be closing an hour earlier at 7pm. Stores in Scotland will be open from 10am to 4pm.
Having implemented these closures over the past three years, Wickes has made the decision to continue with the closure to enable colleagues to enjoy a well-earned break and spend quality time with loved ones.
David Wood, chief executive officer, at Wickes said: “Here at Wickes we want our colleagues to know that all of their hard work definitely doesn’t go unnoticed and is hugely appreciated. That is why we have decided that our Christmas closures will be implemented yearly as a way to thank everyone for their tremendous service throughout the year.”
Wickes has 231 stores in the UK. You can use the online store finder tool to locate your nearest one. Customers will still be able to browse the Wickes website and can shop the range or book a design appointment. Delivery times may vary during the Christmas period.
The Range
The Range, which sells products in the home, garden and leisure categories, have not yet released their Christmas opening hours but are urging customers to check their local stores on their website here. Last year the retailer was open on Christmas Eve from 9am to 6pm, closed on Christmas Day and was open on Boxing Day from 11am-4pm. They were also open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day too.
IKEA
IKEA stores will vary across the UK over the festive period. The Swedish furniture and home store will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but will be open on Boxing Day at reduced hours.
Each store has slightly different hours which are being classed as “exceptional hours”, and IKEA is asking customers to please check their local store page for opening times across these days here.
The festive opening times for IKEA are as follows:
- 24/12/2022 Christmas Eve - closed
- 25/12/2022 Christmas Day – closed
- 26/12/2022 Boxing Day – open, reduced hours, check local IKEA store page
- 27/12/2022 – open as usual
- 28/12/2022 – open as usual
- 29/12/2022 – open as usual
- 30/12/2022 – open as usual
- 31/12/2022 New Year's Eve – open, reduced hours, check local IKEA store page
- 01/01/2023 New Year's Day – open, reduced hours, check local IKEA store page. Closed for Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.
Homebase
Homebase have not yet released their Christmas opening hours but are urging customers to regularly check their website here for updates. As of now their opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm but their stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
B&M
B&M stores nationwide will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. All stores will open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve but B&M are asking customers to check on the B&M website for the opening hours of their store before visiting.
All of their stores will be open on Boxing Day, except three stores which include Stockton, Belfast and Grove Park, Weston Super Mare.
Dunelm
Homeware store Dunelm have not officially released their dates yet for the festive period but if last year is anything to go by the stores are likely to be closed on Christmas Day and open on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. According to the opening times website, Dunelm is expected to be open from 9am to 4pm on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day and open from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Boxing Day but it's worth checking nearer the time on their store locator section of their website here.
