Christmas light show plans revealed for Ayr Town Centre

Ayr's Christmas lights show will take place on Sunday, November 20, council bosses have confirmed.

The festive highlight will see a ‘Little Stars Light up Ayr’ event take place in the town cente from 12 noon to 5pm.

A range of free activities and attractions will be on offer for all the family, including a "dance extravaganza," festive face painting, stage entertainment from local youngsters and musical street entertainment.

Younger children will also be able to enjoy festive storytelling sessions in a Kid’s Zone.

Stilt walkers, jugglers and 'Fabulous Fraser' the balloon modeller will all take to the High Street during the day.

The crowds can also take a ride on Santa’s Express Train along the High Street before visiting the Giant Christmas Wish Tree and Giant Chair, just a short stroll from The Wallace Tower.

Santa himself will make an appearance in his grotto at Nile Court between 1pm and 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, a packed Christmas market full of local traders will be be stocking festive goodies inside the Grain Exchange.

A funfair on the High Street and a giant Snow Globe located on Newmarket Street - where people can step inside and take pictures - will also be part of the fun.

The council's culture spokesman, Councillor Alec Clark said: “Like many local people, I always look forward to seeing the annual festive light displays and our Little Stars Light Up Ayr event will help get the festive season off to a great start.

“This exciting event will most definitely bring a buzz to Ayr town centre. I’m sure there will be many families already looking forward to coming along to soak up the atmosphere and delight in a fantastic range of entertainment and activities in the run up to the big switch on.”

Leisure spokesman, Councillor Brian Connolly, added: “Little Stars Light Up Ayr is the perfect event to bring people together to celebrate the beginning of the festive season.

“It’s been a tough couple of years and families deserve this opportunity to relax and enjoy the large range of attractions and activities on offer, which will no doubt entice both locals and visitors into the area.”
