Christmas Day ruined with 'rotten turkeys' as kids 'left in tears' by ET lookalike

A host of families have claimed their Christmases have been ruined by receiving 'rotten' turkeys from supermarket giants across the UK.

After parents made the grim discoveries upon receiving their supermarket delivery, many have taken to social media to complain about the gone-off poultry, reports the Daily Record.

One of the turkeys, which had black and blue stains underneath its skin, has even been compared to the famous film alien, ET. Sophie Whike shared a picture of the turkey on Twitter and wrote: "Literally what the hell is this. Just defrosted my Turkey from @LidlGB.

"Christmas ruined. It's Xmas eve - this is actually a joke. Not only is there no meat, the house smells of rotten meat - not acceptable."

Other shoppers also faced similar issues as they began to prepare their Christmas dinners.

One Twitter user said: "What the bloody hell @sainsbury. My turkey is rotten. Christmas ruined, kids are crying. We now have to have beans on toast. An absolute disgrace."

Meanwhile, another tweeted: "Just got my @sainsburys turkey out the fridge to stuff it and prep it for tomorrow's big Christmas dinner for the bird to absolutely stink! Gave it 15mins to see if the smell would go only for it to get worse.

"Very disappointing considering it would've been the centerpiece." Sainsbury's responded by saying they will look into the complaint.

And another added: "Oh wow @sainsburys this is a pretty poor show! Fresh turkey dated 27th Dec and it's bad! Slimy skin with yellowing patches and smells off. That's going to put a downer on tomorrow's Christmas dinner for 13!"

More unhappy customers wrote: "Thank you @LidlGB for nearly ruining our xmas! Turkey crown bought had gone off. Absolutely vile."

And one said: "@Morrisons really disappointed. Have opened my food to order Turkey this morning, and it's off. #notveryMerryChristmas."

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Our quality team taste test all our products - we have been taste testing our turkeys against our high quality and safety standards throughout the Christmas period - including our joints, crowns and whole birds and we have rigorous standards, procedures and testing in place with our approved suppliers.

"Any complaints received from customers will be thoroughly investigated with our suppliers to ensure we satisfy our customers and meet our high quality standards."
