Christmas classic film The Snowman and The Snowdog to be turned into live concert

Christmas classic The Snowman and The Snowdog is being turned into live concert featuring music from Razorlight's Andy Burrows.

The much-loved film, which is the sequel to Raymond Briggs' The Snowman, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

Two exciting shows showcasing the film's soundtrack will be brought to life by composer Ilan Eshkeri and Andy - alongside a full orchestra and live band.

The evening and matinee shows at Birmingham's Town Hall and London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane, will also include special surprise guests performing classic Christmas songs.

The Snowman and The Snowdog was released in 2012 and was directed by Hilary Audus and Joanna Harrison, both of whom worked as animators on the original film.

The 24-minute film, which took nearly two years to complete, cost £2 million to produce and was created from over 200,000 hand- drawn images, tells the story of Billy and his new dog Socks.

After asking Father Christmas for a new pet after his dog passed away, Billy builds a snowman and a snowdog, who magically come to life.

However, the next morning, Billy and Socks wake to find that the Snowman has melted, as they both kneel down by the pool of ice, mourning the loss of their friend.

The film, which had a working title of The Snowman 2 before the final name was revealed, was dedicated to the late John Coates, who was the producer of the original Snowman.

The BAFTA-nominated score for The Snowman and The Snowdog was recorded at the Abbey Road Studios by Ilan and Andy, whose music career includes a solo stint with Razorlight and We Are Scientists.

Ilan, meanwhile, has written scores for the film Stardust as well as The Young Victoria.

The four one-off live shows follow the first sell-out live performances of The Snowman and The Snowdog in 2013, which The Upcoming magazine called "a glisteningly festive and utterly magical masterpiece".

Tickets for the concerts, which will be held at Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday December 17 and London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Tuesday 20 December, are available from Ticketmaster.
