Christmas is a busy time for many and with all the extra food and presents our bins are filling up much quicker with wrapping paper and scraps. With that in mind it's important to take note of when your rubbish and recycling bins are due to be collected over the period between Christmas and New Year.
While some councils will be collecting refuse as usual others have changed the dates of when they plan to collect your rubbish. Here are all the rubbish collection arrangements for the different councils across Wales this festive season.
Anglesey
Refuse collections will continue as normal on December 23 and January 2.
If your normal collection day is Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected on Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected on Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected on Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day is Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected on Saturday, December 31.
Blaenau Gwent
If your normal collection day is Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected on Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected on Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected on Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day is Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected on Saturday, December 31st.

Bridgend
Collections will be carried out as normal on Friday, December 23. There will be no collections on Saturday, December 24, Sunday, December 25, or Monday, December 26. Collections due the week of December 26 will be collected one day later than usual until they return to normal on Monday, January 2.
Residents can put out one extra waste bag for their first refuse collection after Christmas Day. An additional vehicle will also be deployed to collect cardboard waste – if yours isn’t collected with other recycling the crew will return to collect it later.
Carmarthenshire
Carmarthenshire council says it has not yet released its timetable for refuse collection over the festive period.
Caerphilly
There will be no changes to the waste collection service over the Christmas and New Year period according to the council's website. Find out more about council services provision over the festive period here.
Cardiff
Recycling and waste collections will stay the same over Christmas and New Year. You can check your recycling and waste collection dates through Cardiff council's website here by entering your house number and postcode. Recycling and waste should be placed out by 6am on collection day and no earlier than 4.30pm the day before.
Ceredigion
Ceredigion Council's intention is to provide scheduled waste collections over the festive period with no change to collections on December 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 and on January 2.
Conwy
Residents who usually have their collection on a Monday will have their collection on Saturday, December 24, instead of Monday, December 26. There are no changes for New Year week.
Denbighshire
Waste collection services will run as standard over the holiday period including on bank holidays. People are asked to present household waste as normal.
Flintshire
There will be no waste and recycling collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year's Day. Collections for waste and recycling will be on Christmas Eve, December 29, 30, and 31. Normal waste and recycling collections will also take place on Monday, January 2, and Tuesday, January 3. There will be normal collections as well as food collections on December 27. Normal collections as well as black bin collections will take place on December 28.
Gwynedd
Households that would normally have their waste collected on Monday, December 26, will have their general waste (green wheelie bin/black bags) collected on Saturday, December 24, with recycling (blue box) and food waste (small brown bin) collected the following week (January 2).
All waste (general waste, recycling, and food waste) will be collected as normal on both bank holidays on Tuesday, December 27, and Monday, January 2. All homes affected by these changes will receive a letter explaining the arrangements and information will also be posted on the council’s website and social media platforms.
Merthyr Tydfil
Collections in Merthyr Tydfil are a day later than normal over Christmas and New Year:
If your normal collection day is Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected on Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected on Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected on Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day is Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected on Saturday, December 31st.
If your normal collection day is Monday, January 2: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, January 3.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, January 3: Bins will be collected on Wednesday, January 4.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday, January 4: Bins will be collected on Thursday, January 5.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, January 5: Bins will be collected on Friday, January 6.
If your normal collection day is Friday, January 6: Bins will be collected on Saturday, January 7.
Monmouthshire
Collections will be one day late between Christmas and New Year, collecting on Saturday, December 31, to catch up. Normal collections will continue after New Year. Residents can check online collection days here. Collection days can be found on this calendar.
Neath Port Talbot
Normal collection rounds will resume on Monday, January 2.
If your normal collection day is Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected on Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected on Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day is Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected on Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day is Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected on Saturday, December 31st.
Newport
All council and Wastesavers collection days will remain unchanged this year.
Pembrokeshire
Recycling collections will take place as normal until Friday December, 23. There will be no waste and recycling collections on Boxing Day. Collections will take place one day later than usual (i.e. collections due on Monday, December 26, will take place the following day on Tuesday, December 27). This sequence will continue all week including collections due on Friday, December 30, which will instead take place on Saturday, December 31. Find out more information here.

Powys council will release its waste collection timetable for the festive period on Monday, December 12.
Rhondda Cynon Taf
If your normal collection day would be Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day would be Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day would be Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day would be Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day would be Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected Saturday, December 31.

Swansea
Recycling collections will take place as normal until Friday, December 23. All collections will be later than usual from Monday, December 26, and will return to normal on January 9, 2023. To find out more information on your recycling and rubbish collection visit the council website.
If your normal collection day is Tuesday: Bins will be collected on Thursday December, 29 and Thursday, January, 5.
If your normal collection day is Wednesday: Bins will be collected on Friday, December 30 and Friday, January 6.
If your normal collection day is Thursday : Bins will be collected on Saturday, December 31 and Saturday, January 7.
If your normal collection day is Friday: Bins will be collected on Tuesday, January 3 and Sunday, January 8.
Torfaen
There will be no changes to collection days in the week leading up to Christmas. However after Christmas collections will run one day later than usual. Refuse collection will run as normal on New Year's Day.
If your normal collection day would be Monday, December 26: Bins will be collected Tuesday, December 27.
If your normal collection day would be Tuesday, December 27: Bins will be collected Wednesday, December 28.
If your normal collection day would be Wednesday, December 28: Bins will be collected Thursday, December 29.
If your normal collection day would be Thursday, December 29: Bins will be collected Friday, December 30.
If your normal collection day would be Friday, December 30: Bins will be collected Saturday, December 31.
Wrexham
For the week commencing December 19 everyone household in Wrexham will have a general waste collection (black/blue bin). For the week commencing December 26 no household in Wrexham will have a general waste collection (black/blue bin) or garden waste collection (green bin) – the council will only be collecting recycling and food waste from properties on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday .
No collections will take place on Monday, December 26, and Tuesday, December 27 . Affected residents will be able to leave extra recycling out the following week as described below. For the week commencing January 2 every household in Wrexham will have a general waste collection (black/blue bin).
Collections will take place on Monday, January 2, and are not affected by the bank holiday. If your recycling boxes get full the council say you can leave any extra recyclables in solid containers next to your other recycling on your collection day and they’ll recycle the materials (leaving the containers behind for you to reuse again).
If you have extra recycling then separate the materials as you usually would – so if you have extra plastic bottles and glass put the plastic in one container and the glass in a separate container. The council will collect clean flattened cardboard left by recycling containers as long as it is no larger in height or width than a standard issue blue sack.
