Christine McGuinness reveals grandmother's stoic advice saved her marriage to Paddy

Christine McGuinness has opened up on the meaningful advice her grandmother once gave to help with her marriage to husband Paddy.

The married pair, who have been together for 14 years and share three children, have been at the centre of speculation in recent months.

Rumours of a potential split began soon after Paddy, 48, appeared not to publicly support Christine, 34, during her time on ITV's The Games.

Following the show, the mum-of-three whisked herself off on a solo trip to Croatia - sparking even more rumours of a divide between the two.

But in her autobiography, A Beautiful Nightmare, Christine previously revealed the piece of advice she sticks by when it comes to facing hardships in her marriage.

The advice came from her grandmother after returning to her home during a tough period with her husband.

During the stay, her nan told her: “Marriage is difficult. I’ve been through it all with Grandad, and look at us now. I wouldn’t be without him.”

Christine went on to add: "That advice has always stuck with me. People go through difficult times in marriage, family, work, life – everything… I wanted my children to have a dad at home. It didn’t matter to me if I’d forgiven him, if I was OK with it or if I trusted him. All of that didn’t count, I just wanted my children to have their father there – something I never had."

It comes after the star opened up about her marriage struggles with Paddy this week.

"What I might have put up with in the past, I probably wouldn’t put up with now, and the same for him," she explained to The Sun about her marriage, "I can't lie we're having a very, very difficult time.

"It’s just - we’ve been together 15 years, 11 years married: we are gonna have ups and downs - but this situation at the minute - I don’t want to go into it too much but I will just say that I didn’t cause this situation."

Meanwhile, the former Real Housewives of Cheshire star also spoke about their relationship during an appearance on Lorraine.

Christine sat down with Carol Vorderman on the ITV show as she briefly discussed her and Paddy's situation.

She told the host: "I think marriages just go through ups and downs anyway. I think all marriages - especially long ones like ours - it's not always going to be plain sailing but we're trying to deal with things as privately as possible.

"We just want to be there to support the children and have an amazing summer. We're going away on a family holiday next week and we're really excited. They're always going to be our focus."

Christine and Paddy share twins Penelope and Leo, nine, and six-year-old Felicity.
