Christine Lampard says 'going to work can be easier' in parenting debate

Christine Lampard has said 'going to work can be easier sometimes' in a debate on parenting.

On Wednesday the Newtownards native and fellow Loose Women panellists discussed whether the highest earner in a couple should therefore parent less.

The Co Down woman and husband, Everton football manager Frank Lampard, are parents to Patricia (3) and Freddie who is nearly 1.

Frank also has two teenage daughters, Luna and Isla, with ex-wife Elen Rivas.

Christine said: "Going to work can be easier sometimes, there will be a lot of parents sitting at home right now going 'Oh my goodness, there is a screaming baby, one child's ill, someone's been sick and there are things to do.'

"It's a full time hard graft."

Linda Robson replied: "Well you know, they've not been well, your two, have they?"

Christine continued: "Last week, the two of them were just not right at all. He's up there [Frank at work], I had a baby stuck to me here, my other little one [was] not great, and you can't fix it quickly, and you're in it and all the other bits have to be done. And you think 'Oh my goodness, deep breaths.'

"I'm feeling for everybody at home right now dealing with dirty nappies."

Panellist Katie Piper said she feels it is "so unfair" to attribute the situation to money.

"In this day and age you often get two parents who are absolute grafters, both working really hard just to keep their head above the water.

"You get sometimes where the parent has decided to stay at home, they may not be earning any physical money, but they are running the house, they are running all the domestic stuff. That can be a 16 hour day.

"I think it's about respecting one and other and saying, 'You look tired, go sit down, you go for a walk, you want to go the gym' and just observe each other and see when you are burning out and you're exhausted.

"I think it is really unfair to prioritise money.

"I don't like to congratulate my husband for looking after his own children. I hate the term 'daddy day care'. I am a good mum, he's a good dad, we decided to have children together," Katie explained.
