Christina Applegate carries ‘FU MS’ cane at SAG Awards after admitting ceremony may be her last

Christina Applegate arrived at the 2023 SAG Awards with a cane that read: “FU MS” after saying the event may be her “last awards show as an actor” amid her battle with multiple sclerosis.

The 51-year-old, who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, arrived at the glitzy event hand-in-hand with daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble, 12.

For the awards, held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, the Dead to Me star donned a black velvet floor-length tuxedo dress while her daughter complemented her in a black suit, Dr Martens and black hat.

Applegate completed her ensemble with a black cane, which she accessorised with white stickers, including one that read: “FU MS” and another with her daughter’s name.

The actress unfortunately lost her category to Jean Smart, who took home the honour for her role as Deborah Vance in HBO’s hit series, Hacks.

Despite her loss, Applegate was seen cheering loudly and threw her arms up in the air in celebration as Smart was declared the winner.

Earlier this month, the Married With Child star said that this would be her “last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.”

She told the Los Angeles Times: “Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

The actress was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) while shooting the third and final season of Netflix’s hit series Dead To Me in August 2021.

Although she’s taken a step back from acting, the Hollywood star told the publication that she’s pursuing voiceover work.

She added: “Doing a s*** ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed”.
