Christina Aguilera 'unfollows' Britney Spears after 'fat shaming' post reignites feud

Christina Aguilera has seemingly unfollowed Britney Spears on Instagram.

Following Britney's recent social media update, in which she took aim at the Genie in a Bottle singer and her backup dancers, fans online have noted how Christina is no longer following the mum-of-two on Instagram.

The social media snub comes almost a year on from Britney slamming her fellow pop princess for seemingly refusing to discuss her controversial 13-year conservatorship - just months after Christina took to Twitter to passionately advocate for Britney and support her bid for freedom.

On Monday night, Britney took to Instagram to recall her experiences working with the 'tiniest' backup dancers, and claim her confidence was knocked during her time performing while under her controversial 13-year conservatorship.

In a now-deleted post, the Toxic singer posed nude - with an emoji covering her bum - as she pledged to never perform on stage again and tell her father, Jamie Spears: "See this picture right here....kiss my God damn mother f***ing a** you f**king bas***d."

Britney went on to delete her original post and share another savage update with her followers - this time seemingly taking aim at fellow popstar Christina.

Sharing a graphic which bears the message "I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people", Britney told her Instagram followers: "I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small [dancers emojis]… I mean why not talk about it ??

"Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!! It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!!"

She concluded, writing: "Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about."

Britney's fans quickly took to the comment section to plead with the star to delete her post, with one writing: "Oof. Love Britt- but this was in bad taste. Body shaming to make yourself feel better is not where it’s at."

Another wrote: "Girl, heal yourself, but don’t repost toxic s*** like this to try and do so. Doesn’t make you any better."

Over on Twitter, many fans noted how Britney's Instagram account is not among the 140 accounts Christina follows - with one observer writing: "Amen. Christina Aguilera finally unfollows Britney Spears."

The Mirror has approached representatives for Christina for comment on this story.

It's not known for sure if Christina was already following Britney prior to the singer's post on Monday night, but this isn't the first time the Gimmie More hitmaker has taken aim at her fellow Disney Club alumni on Instagram over recent years.

In November 2021, Britney slammed Christina for 'refusing' to speak out about her 'abusive' conservatorship, after a video of Christina pulling a face and walking away as she was asked to give her take on her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star's situation went viral.

Britney raged: "13 years being in a corrupt system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about ???"

The clip showed Christina being asked by reporters at the Latin Grammy Awards if she had been in touch with Britney since her conservatorship was terminated earlier in the month.

A representative for the Genie In A Bottle hitmaker then pulls her away as Christina says: "I can't... but I'm happy for her."

At the time of Britney's angry reaction to Christina's refusal to speak on the subject, fans attempted to inform Britney that just months earlier, the Dirrty singer had shared a passionate statement in support of her fellow star's bid for freedom.

"These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through," Christina began in a lengthy Twitter thread shared in June 2021, when Britney was still under her controversial conservatorship.

She continued to say: "It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.

"To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those “close” to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly."

Christina went on to add how "every woman must have the right to her own body" and concluded her chain of tweets saying: "My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world."

In November 2021, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny terminated the arrangement that left Britney with no control over her life, finances and wellbeing for 13 years.
