Christina Aguilera announces Las Vegas residency for New Year’s Eve

Christina Aguilera has announced she will be following in the footsteps of Britney, Elvis, Adele and now U2 by bringing a series of shows to Las Vegas.

The pop star confirmed on Tuesday she will be performing at Voltaire Belle de Nuit at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas starting on New Year’s Eve weekend.

She said she was hoping to bring two decades of hits to intimate surroundings when the show gets going, with her statement saying: “I look forward to bringing Las Vegas a new show that fuses music, sophistication and art in ways I have never performed before.”

“What I love about the intimacy at Voltaire at The Venetian Resort is how up-close-and-personal I can be with the audience … a truly modern twist on the performance experience.”

Aguilera has an extensive back catalogue to draw from for her setlist and has recently made a habit of finishing her shows with her 2003 hit Fighter.

The first show will be on December 30 with another on New Year’s Eve while more dates will be announced on Friday. The news of the residency was shared with Billboard on Tuesday.

Kylie will be performing her first Vegas residency at the same venue from November 3 – becoming the first singer to do so at Voltaire.

Voltaire founder Michael Gruber said he wants to create “superstar artist experiences in Las Vegas” and that Aguilera was “incredibly talented”.

Since releasing her ninth studio album Aguilera last year, the 42-year-old has completed tours and performed at New York City’s Pride festival. She has also launched a perfume called Xtina – allowing her to make the pun on her own song by calling it “Xtina in a bottle”.

The mother-of-two has been engaged to Matthew Rutler since 2014 and was previously married to Jordan Bratman from 2005 to 2011.

Tickets for the Vegas residency will go on sale on Friday.
