Christian Pulisic lifts lid on Todd Boehly meeting and speaks out on Chelsea future

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic admits he is excited by the future under new American owner Todd Boehly following his takeover of the club.

The owner of baseball team the LA Dodgers completed the takeover of the Blues on Monday to mark the end of Roman Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club, the most successful rein in Chelsea ’s history.

Boehly was a regular at Stamford Bridge for the final games of the Blues’ 2021/22 campaign in which they finished third in the Premier League table. During his time in the build-up to completing the takeover, he met with the players, and both Thomas Tuchel and Women’s manager Emma Hayes.

Despite starting only 13 of the Blues’ Premier League games last term and being linked with transfer interest from Italian giants Juventus, Pulisic is excited by the future at Chelsea under Boehly and has opened up on his meeting with him.

“At the end of the season, we were able to meet with them and they were around the club a lot,” Pulisic told METRO. “They are really good people so I’m excited moving forward.”

Pulisic has spent three full years at Stamford Bridge since arriving at Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, scoring 25 times in 115 appearances in all competitions. In London, Pulisic has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup, as well as playing in three FA Cup finals and a Carabao Cup final, although all of them ended in defeats.

On his future given his recent exit links from Tuchel’s side, the winger admits his focus right now is on being with the United States of America’s national side, having played for them in their 3-0 friendly win over Morocco in Cincinnati on Friday morning ahead of upcoming meetings with Uruguay (June 5), Grenada (June 11) and El Salvador (June 15).

“As far as right now, I’m obviously just focused on what I’m doing here. And I’m super excited to be here. And yeah, that’s it,” Pulisic added.

“Of course, I want to get more playing time. I want to be on the field as much as I can and be the sharpest I can be and fit as well.

“I think I still got a lot of games, but it’s always something that I’m working at and trying to be regular at club level as well to put myself in the best position to be fit when I come here with the national team.”

Pulisic and his USA teammates will be at this year’s World Cup in Qatar, taking place across November and December, playing England and Iran in Group B.

The final group spot will be taken by either Ukraine or Wales, who face each other in a play-off qualifier on Sunday afternoon.
