Christian Norgaard Appeal Successfully Overturns Brentford Captain's Red Card

Brentford skipper Christian Norgaard’s appeal against a three-match ban has been successful after his red card at Everton on 23 November was overturned.

Danish midfielder Norgaard was shown a straight red in the 41st minute of his side’s goalless draw at Goodison Park.

Referee Chris Kavanagh was sent to the pitch-side monitor by the video assistant referee (VAR) following Norgaard’s challenge on Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.

After review, Norgaard received a red card and was facing a three-game suspension.

But Brentford have now successfully appealed the decision to dismiss their captain. Norgaard is now free to play, with the red card overturned for wrongful dismissal.

His availability will be a huge boost for Thomas Frank’s side. The Bees host Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Christian Norgaard Appeal Vindicates Thomas Frank

Speaking after the game, Bees boss Thomas Frank was incensed by the decision to send off Norgaard. His protests during the match were enough to earn himself a yellow card.

He said: “It was not a red card. I will have to tell my players they can’t jump in and try to score in the six-yard box.”

With the manager now free to select Norgaard, it’s likely he will play this weekend.

The Denmark international has started 10 times already for Brentford this season. Scoring once so far, he has been integral to the side throughout the campaign.

The draw at Everton secured Brentford their first clean sheet of the season. But it is their exploits at the other end of the field that have earned them major plaudits.

Despite sitting 11th in the table, only three teams have outscored Brentford this season.

With 22 goals so far, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are the only sides with more Premier League goals than the Bees in 2024/25.

Following the weekend’s game against Leicester, Brentford travel to Aston Villa before hosting Newcastle United on 7 December.
