San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is being placed on injured reserve after suffering a PCL injury in Sunday night’s 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. How much time will the All-Pro miss?
Christian McCaffrey’s Season Likely Over
Christian McCaffrey –
Went down on his own, favoring his right leg. Clearly something wrong, and it’s safe to assume it’s something involving his right calf and/or Achilles.
I suppose it was only a matter of time…

McCaffrey suffered a non-contact injury early in the second quarter of Sunday night’s loss. McCaffrey exited the game and never returned. He finished with 53 rushing yards.
On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced McCaffrey would be placed on the IR. McCaffrey’s injury does not require surgery. However, he will miss at least six weeks.
With five weeks left in the regular season, McCaffrey would not return this year unless San Francisco makes a deep playoff run.
McCaffrey injured his calf and Achilles in the week leading up to the 49ers’ first game. Those injuries kept the star running back out until Week 10.
McCaffrey recorded 348 scrimmage yards and zero touchdowns in four games.
McCaffrey was not the only 49ers running back to sustain an injury. Jordan Mason, the 49ers leading rusher, suffered a high ankle sprain and will be placed on injured reserve.
Isaac Guerendo will be the team’s No. 1 running back for the rest of the season.

With Sunday’s loss, the 49ers fell to 5-7. San Francisco is in fourth place in the NFC West behind the Seahawks (7-5), Cardinals (6-6), and Rams (6-6).
The injuries to McCaffrey and Mason are the latest for 49ers players to have their season end early. Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Javon Hargrave (triceps), Elijah Mitchell (hamstring), and Talanoa Hufanga (wrist) all suffered season-ending injuries.
The 49ers host the Chicago Bears (4-8) in Week 14.
