For much of the past two seasons, there hasn’t been anything more automatic than a Christian McCaffrey touchdown when he plays. He had scored at least once in 17 straight games and went into Sunday’s game against the Jaguars in search of breaking Lenny Moore’s NFL record.
He’d have to settle for being tied with Moore’s mark.
Despite a dominant 34-3 Niners win, McCaffrey was unable to find the end zone. And they really tried to make it happen — even when the Niners were up 31 points late in the game.
It just wasn’t meant to be for McCaffrey. But credit to him: He joked about his team’s great day at his own expense.
Christian McCaffrey on not getting the touchdown late in the fourth quarter to break the NFL record:

He said:

Ah, don’t be too tough on yourself, Christian.
Fans did enjoy the sarcastic response from the Niners star. He didn’t seem too upset about missing out on the record.
