Christian Kirk embracing underdog role: ‘It’s us vs. the world’

No team opened as a bigger underdog in the Divisional Round than the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Kansas City Chiefs. And no team has longer odds to win Super Bowl LVII.

That’s nothing new for the Jaguars, says wide receiver Christian Kirk.

“We’ve been counted out all season long,” Kirk said on a Monday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “We string together some wins and people still say, ‘It’s the Jacksonville Jaguars.’ They still kinda give us that underdog mentality. We’re gonna keep embracing that.

“So I think for us, going down to Kansas City this Saturday, it’s going to be us vs. the world.”

It’s been well over a month since the Jaguars’ last loss and the team will head to Arrowhead Stadium on a six-game winning streak. Still, the team’s role as a dark horse wasn’t unearned.

The Jaguars lost 27-17 to the Chiefs in November and their 9-8 regular season is the worst of the eight teams still alive. None of that worries the Jaguars either, says Kirk.

“We thought when we went down there [to Kansas City] earlier this year, we left a lot on the table,” Kirk told 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien on Saturday. “We’re going to have to prepare our butts off and come ready to play.”

The Jaguars fell in a 20-0 hole in that Week 10 matchup, spotting the Chiefs a big lead as the Jacksonville offense punted six times and missed a field goal on its first seven possessions.
