Christian Eriksen verbally agrees Man Utd transfer after Erik ten Hag offer

Christian Eriksen has verbally agreed to join Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The Dane returned to the Premier League back in January, penning a short-term deal with Brentford after leaving Inter Milan. His performances have attracted plenty of attention given he's now a free agent. The Bees had hoped to retain his services but the player has accepted a three-year proposal at Old Trafford.

United have been keen to add recruits in the middle of the park and are now drafting up a contract for Eriksen, who will also complete a medical. There are not expected to be any issues, but given the player's history all the boxes still need to be ticked.

The 30-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest last summer whilst playing for Denmark at Euro 2020. He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator which meant he was unable to continue playing for then-club Inter Milan due to Serie A rules.

Eriksen was a hugely influential figure in his short time in west London and has previously showcased his quality in the Premier League. He excelled during a lengthy period at Tottenham, playing a key role in Mauricio Pochettino's side who often finished in the top four and made it to the Champions League final.

Erik ten Hag is still looking to confirm the first signing of his tenure in Manchester having endured a frustrating summer thus far. Eriksen has been among those most heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, alongside the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Tyrell Malacia. The Red Devils have seen a host of their midfield options leave in recent months after Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard all departed once their contracts expired.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank had been optimistic about his chances of retaining Eriksen, but now looks set to lose out. He said back in May: "I'm convinced there is a good chance he can wear a Brentford shirt (next season). I know I'm optimistic, but I also picked up the phone and called him to say 'hey, do you want to come to Brentford?' No one thought about that six months ago. The way I see it for us, its a win-win.

"He helped the team, he gave something to the fans. We helped him back to his football life. For Christian, it is a win-win. Either he signs with us and everyone is going to be happy - the fans will build a statue of him outside the stadium in two or three years' time - or he will go to a bigger level and the fans will applaud him."
