Christian Eriksen is set to make a decision on his future within the next fortnight amid interest from Manchester United, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed.
The Bees have offered Eriksen a new long-term contract after he successfully resumed his playing career by penning a six-month deal in west London in January.
The Danish playmaker impressed on his return to the Premier League and brushed off any lingering concerns over his health following the cardiac arrest suffered on the pitch in Copenhagen at Euro 2020 last summer.
Eriksen, who was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), easily helped Brentford to retain their top-flight status, scoring once and providing four assists in 11 appearances.
His form has attracted interest from Manchester United, who are believed to have offered the player a deal as they plot a significant squad overhaul under new boss Erik ten Hag.
But Frank has not yet given up hope of Eriksen saying at Brentford and says he expects him to communicate a decision over his future in the next two weeks, as per a previous agreement between the pair.
“I do not know [if Brentford can keep Eriksen],” Frank said of his compatriot in an interview with Spanish outlet AS. “I know we still have a chance and I hope he will make a decision in two weeks. The agreement is that he will call me and tell me what he wants to do. He hasn’t decided yet.”
Looking back on Brenford’s move to sign Eriksen in January, Frank said: “I coached Eriksen in the youth ranks in Denmark. In October, my son called me: ‘Dad, why don’t you contact Christian? He has to play football again.’ I called Eriksen in December and asked him if he would consider playing football again at Brentford and he replied: ‘Funny thing is I thought of you too’,” he said.
“I never had any doubts that he would come back to a good level and now I hope we can retain him.”
Eriksen has also been heavily linked with a potential return to Tottenham, where he enjoys a strong rapport with supporters after appearing more than 300 times for the club during a seven-year stint between 2013-20 that ended when he left for Inter Milan.
The 30-year-old worked under current Spurs head coach Antonio Conte at Inter, winning the Serie A title, but Standard Sport understands that the north Londoners are yet to hold any discussions over Eriksen as they continue their summer recruitment drive following deals for Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
