Christian Eriksen’s first words as ex-Tottenham star seals Premier League return with Brentford

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen has said that he ‘can’t wait’ to get started with Brentford after signing a deal with the Premier League side until the end of the season.

The Danish midfielder’s switch back to England was confirmed on deadline day, with a deal running until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The deal represents Eriksen ’s first return to the Premier League since originally departing Spurs for Inter Milan back in the summer of 2020, whilst it is also a landmark moment with the 29-year-old having suffered a shocking cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

He was not allowed to remain in Italy, with Serie A rules preventing players with an ICD - implantable cardioverter defibrillator - from taking to the pitch.

However, such rules do not exist in the Premier League and Eriksen has now sealed an emotional return as he links up with compatriot Thomas Frank at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Following confirmation of his switch, Eriksen sent a message to supporters via the club’s official channels.

He said: “Hi everyone it’s Christian Eriksen, I’m happy to announce I’ve signed for Brentford Football Club.

“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully I’ll see you all very soon.”

It remains to be seen when the Denmark international will be able to take to the pitch for the Bees, with their next game coming in the form of an FA Cup fourth round tie against Everton at Goodison Park this weekend.

He could, however, be in contention to take on former club Tottenham towards the end of the season, with Spurs set to travel to the Brentford Community Stadium in mid-April.
