Christian Eriksen outlines what he wants from next club amid Man Utd transfer interest

Manchester United transfer target Christian Eriksen has hinted that he is hoping to return to the Champions League ahead of a potential summer move.

The Danish midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season having only penned a six-month deal with Brentford in the January transfer window - his first return to football following his shocking cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

A number of clubs including the Red Devils have been linked with a swoop for the former Inter Milan man following his impressive performances in west London and now Eriksen has suggested that he is eyeing a return to the top table of European football should he wave goodbye to Brentford.

Speaking to Viaplay after the Bees’ 3-2 comeback victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday evening, the 30-year-old said: “I do not think that there are some football players who can just pick and choose between clubs, because there are many criteria that come into play. There are also many clubs that need to see one’s path before that happens.

“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”

Eriksen of course reached the Champions League final with former club Tottenham Hotspur, only to be on the losing side against Premier League rivals Liverpool. Since signing for Brentford in the January transfer window, the Dane has gone on to make ten appearances for the Bees.

He scored a memorable strike in the 4-1 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in April, whilst he has also provided a further four assists - that form having been pivotal to Brentford steering themselves away from any relegation trouble throughout the campaign. Eriksen still has time to guide the club to a highly-impressive top-half finish, the side current sitting 11th in the standings ahead of their final match of the campaign.

Whilst there is currently plenty of interest in Eriksen’s services ahead of the summer transfer window, Bees boss Thomas Frank has already expressed his desire to keep the Danish playmaker at the Brentford Community Stadium. Speaking last month, he said: “Obviously Christian is a fantastic player, but I know that I will answer this question from now until the end of the season and hopefully we end up signing him.

“But if he ends up at another club, it is what it is," he continued. "I think we went into this with open eyes and this is the outcome we hoped for, that he performs fantastic and that we perform well and the other hope is that he performs after the summer.”
