Christian Bale To Star As Frankenstein's Monster In 'The Bride'

The Bride-Poster

Christian Bale has been revealed as Frankenstein's monster in a first look at Maggie Gyllenhaal's upcoming film, 'The Bride.' The director recently shared images on Instagram from a camera test for the movie, which is a period piece being produced in collaboration with Warner Bros.

Bale's portrayal of the iconic monster will be alongside Jessie Buckley, known for her Oscar-nominated role in 'The Lost Daughter,' who plays the titular bride in the film. The star-studded cast also includes Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening, with Lawrence Sher, the cinematographer of 'Joker,' on board as part of the crew.

'The Bride' is set in 1930s Chicago and offers a fresh take on the classic Frankenstein story. Buckley's character, a young woman who is murdered and then revived, surprises her creators by seeking romance and sparking a social revolution.

In addition to the first look at Bale, Gyllenhaal also shared a teaser photo of Buckley's character. This film marks Gyllenhaal's second directorial project, following the success of her debut film, 'The Lost Daughter,' which received critical acclaim upon its release on Netflix in 2021 and garnered multiple Academy Award nominations.

Notably, 'The Bride' is not the only Frankenstein-themed movie in the works. Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is currently working on his own adaptation of the story, with Jacob Elordi set to star as the monster. The cast of del Toro's film includes Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Warner Bros. has scheduled the release of 'The Bride' for October 2, 2025, in theaters and Imax screens, promising an exciting cinematic experience for fans of the Frankenstein lore.
