Christian Atsu found alive after being 'trapped' in rubble after earthquake

Christian Atsu has been found alive after reportedly being trapped following a devastating earthquake in Turkey.

The 31-year-old former Chelsea and most recently Newcastle United star, was caught up in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake which happened on Monday.

Portuguese outlet A Bola are reporting that Atsu has been found alive after being trapped for a period of time. They also report that Atsu has been taken to hospital with a foot injury and breathing difficulties.

Atsu currently plays for Turkish club Hatayspor, which is located in the city of Hatay, which is one of the worst affected areas.

Teammates including Onur Ergun, Burak Oksuz, Ruben Ribeiro, Ze Luis and Kerim Alici are all safe.

Atsu joined Chelsea in 2013 and has played for a number of clubs in England. Last summer, he transferred to his current club Hatayspor.

He scored his first goal for the club on Sunday night shortly before the earthquake happened.

A second earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit the south of Turkey just hours after the original quake. Parts of Syria have also been affected by the earthquake.

It has been reported that at least 2,800 people have tragically lost their lives. That number is expected to rise considerably in the coming days.
