Chrissy Teigen recently shared on Instagram that her six-year-old son, Miles, has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Teigen, who has four children with John Legend, revealed that Miles' diagnosis came just a couple of weeks ago when he was hospitalized for an unrelated infection.

Teigen expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from followers who noticed Miles wearing a diabetes monitor in a photo from the Paris Olympics. She highlighted the importance of early detection, mentioning that many children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while being treated for other conditions.

According to Dr. Otis Brawley, Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society, type 1 diabetes is characterized by high blood sugars due to a lack of insulin production. It is commonly diagnosed in children, hence its previous name, juvenile diabetes mellitus.

In her post, Teigen shared that Miles has entered the 'honeymoon period' of managing his condition and received his first insulin shot this week. She expressed gratitude for the medical specialists and the support they have received during this challenging time.

Teigen emphasized the importance of raising awareness about type 1 diabetes and thanked everyone for their kindness and encouragement. She noted that knowing others are going through similar experiences has been comforting for Miles, reassuring him that he is not alone in his journey.

As the Teigen-Legend family navigates this new chapter, they are learning and adapting to the demands of managing type 1 diabetes. The public response to their situation has been overwhelmingly positive, with many offering words of support and solidarity.
