Dancing On Ice contestant Chris Taylor has revealed that he was involved in a car accident shortly after his debut performance on the ITV show, adding to the series of challenges he has faced since joining the competition. The Love Island star, who is currently participating in the ice skating contest, had initially been paired with professional skater Vanessa Bauer, but she had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury.
Now partnered with skater Robin Johnstone, Chris experienced a fall during the latest episode. However, the former Love Island contestant shared in a candid interview that the car crash, which took place the day after his first live appearance, could have been much worse, reported by Lance Live.
In an exclusive preview of Joe Baggs’ podcast Not My Bagg, Chris opened up about the incident, saying: “The day after the first Dancing On Ice show I had a car accident.” He continued: “There were already a few cars on the side of the road who had collided with each other and they were in a bit of a kerfuffle, and I thought, I’m just gonna get out of your way. But I forgot to look and a guy came in on the right-hand side. The guy got out and said ‘You’re Chris’ and it ended up being a really nice conversation and he said ‘you skated really well yesterday”, according to the Mirror.
Chris added a lighthearted note about settling the minor collision without involving insurance: “Anyway, we just sorted it out between us and I backhanded him some cash to save going through the insurance. Not actually sure if I should say that or not! Is it allowed?”
Reflecting on his experience on the show, Chris admitted that he wasn’t sure what the public looked for when casting their votes. “I don’t know, I don’t actually know what people vote on,” he confessed. He also mentioned the unexpected early exits of more famous contestants like Ferne McCann and Chelsee Healey, leaving him feeling surprised and unsure of his position in the competition. “I’m just hanging on like a thread,” he said.
Chris also spoke about his recent fall during his Pokémon-inspired performance, expressing his disappointment: “I am gutted. I really wanted to do that justice. Vanessa choreographed it. It’s nothing to do with the situation – I just decked it. But we got up and did the rest.”
Earlier, Vanessa Bauer had to pull out of the competition due to her own injury. In an emotional video message, she shared the news, saying: “I’m here today with rather upsetting news. I am unfortunately not going to be able to continue on Dancing on Ice with Chris. That’s really upsetting for me. I have trained Chris since October last year and it is always such an amazing achievement for myself to see someone else progress so much in a skill they’ve never done before.”
She went on to explain the severity of her injury, saying, “I have a completely torn ligament, grade three sprain injury and a major grade two sprain injury.” Despite her setback, she reassured fans, “I’m in very good hands,” with Chris adding, “I’m very very sad but you have an annoying brother for life.”
