Kind-hearted TV legend Chris Tarrant says he has taken in three Ukrainian refugees and will offer them a home for as long as they need it.
The former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host says he despairs for the world as Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine continues.
He described war lord Vladimir Putin as 'worse than Hitler' - and says he and partner Jane Bird are also looking after a tiny baby at their Berkshire home.
But Chris is livid at the UK Government's list of rules and checks stopping others wanting to offer Ukrainian refugees a home.
It comes after Home Secretary Priti Patel was forced to apologise for migration delays, saying the scheme had been “a victim of its own popularity”.
Refusing to accept the cash offered to take in Ukrainians, he says they just wanted to do their bit after being left heartbroken by the conflict.
TV great Chris says the country needs to wake up to the crisis with the war predicted to last until next year.
“We said ‘We really ought to do something’. I sent money and stuff and you think, ‘I wonder how much of that gets through?’" he told The Sun.
“So a friend of ours contacted us and said, ‘Would you like to help the Ukrainians?’ I said, ‘Of course we would, we’d love to — but we understand the red tape with the government is so slow?’
“We sort of managed to short-cut all that. You can take money every week to take them, and I don’t want any of that - I just want to look after these people."
A chilling statement was made on Russian television last week as a pundit admitted the idea of being a Ukrainian "needs to be totally eradicated".
He said: "In reality, Russian people we're told 'now you're going to be' (Ukrainians). Even though the name itself is insulting, an insulting name, to be one of the Russian people and to suddenly become Ukrainians.
"The idea of being a Ukrainian, and one of the Russian people was told they're not Russian, you have to hate Russians and fight them. This idea needs to be totally eradicated."
