Celtic have qualified automatically for the Champions League due to Scotland's UEFA coefficient and Scotland's ranking has been subject to much debate between the country's top clubs as to who can take credit.
And Sutton played on the fact that many Rangers fans tease Celtic that they qualified automatically due to their own success in the Europa League last year.
Taking to Twitter, Sutton said: "Not a great night for the coefficient."
But Rangers fans took exception to the Tweet.
One user said: "Would put money on it that we'll do more for the coefficient than Celtic this season to be fair."
While a Celtic fan said: "They just can't seem to do it in the champions league Qualifiers. I'm sure their fans will be more comfortable in the europa league anyway"
