Chris Sutton trolls Rangers after St Johnstone shock as Celtic hero makes 'simply the best' quip

Chris Sutton has poked fun at Rangers as the Celtic hero revels in their shock 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone.

Despite a first half where the Light Blues bombarded the home goal with shot after shot, they would fall in calamitous fashion against Callum Davidson's men. They got their first before the interval when James Brown unleashed a rocket into the net. It was soon worse for their visitors as former striker Nicky Clark broke through the middle of the defence to score a decisive second.

James Tavernier responded with a lifeline for Rangers but it proved to matter little as eventually they slipped to defeat and their first to anyone outside Celtic since manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge last November. Parkhead hero Sutton was in a cheeky mood at full-time as he cast his eye over the score, tweeting at the whistle: "St Johnstone simply the best today…"

The usual Rangers dominance of possession and chances occurred in Perth but they couldn't convert on a bad afternoon.

Their hopes of winning the title are also now hanging by a thread as the gap to Celtic now stands at a large seven points.

Up next for them is a tricky home match against Hearts with van Bronckhorst now under serious pressure amid waning results.
