Chris Sutton shows support to Nick Walsh amid Rangers red card

Celtic hero Chris Sutton has backed referee Nick Walsh following his decision to send off Rangers player Mohamed Diomande.

The midfielder was given his marching orders in the final moments of Rangers' 3-1 victory at Dundee United earlier today.

He reacted angrily to a push from Kevin Holt, raising his hand in the direction of the defender.

Clement branded the red card call as 'incredible', while pundit Kris Boyd says Walsh's decision was 'embarrassing'.

Rangers have already confirmed they will appeal the call with the SFA.

VAR did advise Walsh to review his call at the pitchside monitor at Tannadice, but the whistler stuck to his guns as Diomande walked.

Sutton was full of praise for Walsh having enough courage in his convictions to stand by his call.

He wrote on X: "Good on Nick Walsh sticking to his guns. You can’t slap people in the face and get away with it…"

It's understood that Walsh believed Diomande acted in a deliberate manner, with a source at the Scottish FA suggesting the swing of the midfielder's arm was not negligible in Walsh's mind, hence why he felt it merited a red card for violent conduct.
