Chris Sutton reverses Leeds United relegation claim after unbeaten start to the season

Chris Sutton has amended his prediction on where Leeds United will finish this season. The former Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers striker tipped Leeds to be relegated before the season got underway, but he has reversed his claim after the Whites' impressive start to the campaign.

Leeds are unbeaten in their first three league games, with their statement 3-0 victory against Chelsea on Sunday leaving them third in the Premier League table. Goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison secured a shock victory against the Blues.

The Whites have been one of the best sides in the division in the opening three rounds of fixtures, and while Sutton hasn't ruled them out of a relegation battle, he doesn't believe Jesse Marsch's side will finish in the bottom three based on the evidence produced so far.

"Am I sticking by Leeds getting relegated? Not from what I've seen in the first three games, but there's a long way to go," Sutton said on Monday Night Club.

"We all make predictions before the end of the window and it's not easy. Why did I say Leeds? Because they'd lost Phillips, and Raphinha was a brilliant player for them.

"I didn't see a performance like that coming from Chelsea, but take nothing away from Leeds for the way they started the game and the intensity they played at. They were ferocious. They outthought and outfought Chelsea, and I think it was big for Jesse Marsch.

"Last season was a difficult job that he took over, and it was all about staying up. I think people have overlooked that a little bit as they wanted him to go in and create an identity, but it was all about staying in the division. That wasn't easy, but he did that.

"From what I've seen over the first three games, it hasn't been perfect - they let the lead slip at Southampton, but Sunday was a near perfect performance from Leeds."
