Chris Sutton reckons Rangers have mental Celtic inferiority block and 'noisy neighbours' not so loud now

Chris Sutton reckons the current Rangers squad has a mental block when it comes to beating Celtic. And he hopes the “noisy neighbours” on the other side of Glasgow have learned a lesson since Ange Postecoglou arrived in town.

The Hoops beat their rivals yet again at hampden last Sunday to book a Scottish Cup final date with Inverness CT, ending their rival’s stint as holders and setting up a likely Treble, just the eighth in the club’s history. Sutton has accused some big Gers names of wilting on the big occasion against the champions, and believes it's now at the stage where the inferiority is psychological.

It’s a far cry from when Postecoglou was appointed on the back of Neil Lennon blowing 10-In-A-Row and the Light Blue legions were crowing about being back. And Sutton couldn’t resist a dig at how either club;s fortunates have changed since. He told Scottish Football extra: “This Celtic team, mentally, are just on another level to Rangers. The Celtic players go into these games expecting to find a way to win. They don’t actually have to be at their very, very best.

The Rangers team, they;ve got a bit of a mental block I think, I really, really do. It’s not helped of course that there’s going to be an exodus at Ibrox in the summer and certain big players, or at least players who have been big players for Rangers in the past, who simply haven;t turned up in the recent fixtures.

“But from Celtic’s point of view, I always go back to the start when Ange Postecoglou came into the club and where they are now. That’s maybe a lesson for the noisy - or less noisy neighbours - across the city now.”
