Cautious Chris Sutton insists Todd Cantwell making a switch to Rangers would be a 'punt' on the part of the Ibrox side.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Michael Beale's top January transfer targets and it has been reported a deal for the Norwich City star is edging closer. An English Championship outfit have already had a move rejected for the midfielder who is out of contract in the summer but a switch to Ibrox in the coming days looks likely.
But Celtic hero Sutton is warning Beale that Cantwell might not be ready-made after 'losing his way' in the last few seasons, after the youngster spent a long spell out of the Canaries team under David Wagner. The pundit also believes he can get his career back on track with a move up north making it known that the midfielder is clearly 'talented'.

On BT Sport, he said: "The truth is the last couple of seasons he’s really lost his way. He had a season 2019/20 where he really made his mark. Since then he’s really disappointed.
"He is a talented player. Michael Beale talked up him as when he was coach of Liverpool Under-23s he played against Norwich City and he impressed but he needs to find his way again. Seems to be a bit like Delle Ali type at this moment - no goals and no assists.
"But there is a talent in there. He needs to get his career back on track. It’s a punt. We’ve seen some nice flicks and tricks but he hasn’t been consistent enough in a Norwich City for a number of years now. I hope, for him personally, if that move comes about he gets his career back on track."
