Chris Sutton in 'not really about Celtic' Ange Postecoglou to Spurs verdict

Chris Sutton has warned a potential move to Tottenham for Ange Postecoglou is "not really about Celtic".

The former Parkhead striker reckons the possibility of Postecoglou heading to London comes down to one thing only, ambition.

Pundit Sutton is hopeful Postecoglou will remain at Celtic for years to come but conceded the opportunity at Tottenham would be difficult to knock back as he branded rumours of a future approach as an "incredible chance".

Postecoglou is on the brink of a domestic treble with Celtic this season with only the Scottish Cup final to come on Saturday against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

It's reported that concrete interest from Spurs could come into play after the Scottish Cup final with Arne Slot ruling himself out the running for the London role.

For Sutton, Postecoglou isn't interested in the money on offer for himself or for transfers, but could make the switch due to his desire to manage in the Premier League.

In that sense, Sutton remarked, it's not about Celtic but rather Postecoglou's long-term ambitions in management that could impact his decision.

In his Daily Record column, Sutton wrote: "Ange Postecoglou is an ideal fit for Tottenham right now.

"And, if he fancies that job and a crack at the English Premier League if it is offered, I can’t really see what Celtic can do about it.

"I’ve heard people talk about offering him big new contracts. Offering huge budgets for transfer fees to make a bigger impact on the Champions League to try to ward them off.

"My own opinion looking from the outside in is that it isn’t down to money, be it for himself or for players that he could buy. This comes down purely to ambition. Whether or not there is that ambition to manage in the English Premier League.

"It’s not really about Celtic because if that ambition really does burn within him, Spurs would offer an incredible chance at this stage of his managerial career. Postecoglou wants to make a mark in the Champions League. But what sort of a mark can he make at Celtic as opposed to in London?"
