Chris Sutton expects Ryan Kent to be banned following Liam Scales 'punch' incident

Chris Sutton believes Ryan Kent should receive a ban over an incident with Aberdeen's Liam Scales late on in their Viaplay Cup semi-final clash on Sunday.

The Rangers attacker collided with the former Shamrock Rovers man in the dying minutes of the second-half at Hampden Park when Kent appeared to punch Scales off the ball in the middle of the pitch, reports Football Scotland.

Both sides were chasing a late winner during eight additional minutes, before heading to extra-time, where Rangers sealed a 2-1 victory.

Kent, at the top end of the pitch, looked to have caught Scales in the face as Rangers broke down the field.

No action was taken by either Nick Walsh or VAR official Alan Muir, with the technology still in operation at the moment the incident occurred despite losing connection during the fixture.

And Sutton took to social media to suggest Kent was very lucky to avoid an early bath. He tweeted: "VAR didn’t work as it should north or south of the border at the weekend. Ryan Kent will be very lucky to escape retrospective action for lashing out at Liam Scales though…"

A red card for Kent would have left both sides down to 10 men after Anthony Stewart was sent off for a late lunge on Fashion Sakala.

The Dons skipper was dismissed just minutes before the incident, leaving Aberdeen to battle in extra-time with a man disadvantage as Kemar Roofe scored the winner shortly after the restart.
