Chris Sutton delivers Leeds United 'free hit' warning as Liverpool and Tottenham await

Chris Sutton believes that sides in Leeds United’s position cannot afford to look at any game as a ‘free hit’ at this stage of the season.

The Whites currently sit 15th in the Premier League, just five points above the bottom three and have picked up just one point in their last four matches.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were defeated 4-2 by fourth place Manchester United on Sunday and have fixtures against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to come this week.

Two of the sides currently occupying the bottom three picked up victories at the weekend which has heaped the pressure on Leeds.

Watford ended their long wait for a win by defeating Aston Villa 1-0, while Burnley secured just their second victory of the season with an emphatic 3-0 success at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Speaking on BBC 5Live’s Monday Night Club, Sutton claimed that no matter what game is coming up from now until the end of the season, it cannot be deemed as a ‘free hit’ due to their position in the league.

He said: “You can’t look at games like that, can you? I think Dean Smith at the weekend said with Norwich City you can’t look at games as free hits. You can’t look that far forward.

“I mean Leeds’ biggest problem is, and I admire the way they play, but they leave themselves so wide open and just touching on what you said about Bielsa not wanting to sign players in January.

“Is his stubbornness going to cost Leeds at the end of the season? Him not wanting to bring players in January - because that’s been a hard and fast rule throughout his management career.”
