Chris Sutton has questioned why Ange Postecoglou would consider leaving Celtic for Leeds United. Reports have linked the Greek-born coach with the vacant role at Elland Road following Jesse Marsch’s sacking.
While Alfred Schreuder is now the favourite for the vacancy, Postecoglou remains an outsider with the bookies who has enhanced his reputation north of the border. The 57-year-old was viewed as an underwhelming appointment in June 2021 as the Hoops had missed out on current Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe.
However, regaining the title from Rangers and winning the Scottish League Cup in his debut season quickly dispelled the negativity. A nine-point lead at the top of the Premiership, as well as a 4-0 win over their bitter rivals earlier this season, has endeared Postecoglou to the Bhoys’ faithful further.

Impressing in Scotland often leads to an opportunity at Premier League level. Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers both jumped ship from Glasgow mid-season in recent times once an English club came calling.
Former Hoops striker Sutton cannot understand why anyone would choose a “smaller” English club over Celtic. In his Daily Record column, the ex-striker claimed Leeds would not be an attractive proposition for Postecoglou.
“Just an example because I don’t want people thinking I’m advocating for or predicting the exit of Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool,” Sutton wrote. “But, if the German were to leave his post at Anfield tomorrow, I don’t think there are many who wouldn’t think Postecoglou could go into a club of that size and make an impact.
“He plays their attacking brand of football and has shown in Glasgow he can handle a big environment. Of course, the majority of the smaller clubs in England’s top flight would be interested. But would Postecoglou be interested in them?
“Would he really want to swap Celtic for a Wolves or a Brentford? I can’t see it myself. Leeds are big, but not as big as his current club. It’s making a mark in Europe which holds real appeal. Postecoglou has said himself how much he wants that.”
