Chris Sutton and Paul Merson agree on Arsenal vs Wolves result amid key Declan Rice prediction

Arsenal close out a superb 2022/23 Premier League season by welcoming Wolves to Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Gunners pushed Manchester City all the way in the title race, but ultimately came up short with Pep Guardiola's side able to seal their third consecutive league win following last weekend's results.

Nonetheless, it has still been an excellent season for Mikel Arteta and his players who have significantly overachieved the expectations placed on their shoulders at the start of the season. Securing Champions League football for the following campaign was likely the goal and obtaining that never looked in doubt.

The final few weeks of the season have not been particularly kind to Arsenal, with only two wins from their last eight games. However, the Gunners are more than capable of signing off the campaign with a victory against Julen Lopetegui's Wolves.

Ahead of the clash, Chris Sutton and Paul Merson have provided their predictions for the game with both expecting the hosts to sign off with a statement triumph.

"Arsenal need to win and send the fans home well as it's been a bad end to a season that promised so much just a few weeks ago," Merson wrote in his SportsKeeda column. "They absolutely have to beat Wolves and I think they'll do so comfortably, so I'm going for a 3-0 win.

"Mikel Arteta and his squad have undoubtedly exceeded expectations this season and have been outstanding as a team. You could say the same thing about the Arsenal faithful - their support has been magnificent throughout the season and they've experienced a title challenge after a long, long time.

"That said, next season is definitely going to be harder as the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea will look to bounce back, while Manchester United, Brighton, Newcastle United and Tottenham will all be in the mix as well. Arsenal have a fantastic young squad and could compete for the title once again if they manage to get Declan Rice, a centre forward and a couple of more shrewd signings, but if they don't get it right this summer, their finishing top four is by no means a foregone conclusion.

"I will say one thing, though. As long as Pep Guardiola is around, I don't see anyone else winning the Premier League."

Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Wolves

For his prediction on BBC Sport, Sutton said: "There is nothing important riding on this game for either side but Arsenal will want to finish off a successful season by putting on a show in front of their own fans.

"They lost their way in the title race in the final few weeks but this is chance for them to sign off with a positive performance, and I think that's exactly what they will do.

"It is slightly worrying for Wolves that there are doubts about Julen Lopetegui's future because he has done such a good job - they were bottom when he took charge in November. Their season turned out OK, but there could be an uncertain summer ahead at Molineux."

Sutton's prediction: 2-0
