Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton slammed the club’s forward players for “hiding” following their Champions League loss to Real Madrid.
Once again, the Blues drew a blank and goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio proved enough to give the European champions a healthy lead ahead of next week’s return leg.
Despite the many millions spent on forwards over the last two transfer windows, a lack of goals continue to prove a major problem.
Both Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling missed good chances inside the Santiago Bernabeu, underlining the key issue at hand.
Failing to find the back of the net meant that Chelsea have now not scored in four successive matches in all competitions for the first time in almost 30 years.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton said: “A lot of Chelsea players, especially in forward areas, are hiding.
“It’s an impossible task for Frank Lampard to come in, click his fingers and think everything to change.
“It won’t change against top class opposition. They play Brighton at the weekend and they could tear a strip off Chelsea.”
