The Lions are keeping Chris Spielman for now. A number of coaches had been leaving Detroit for various roles elsewhere, but Spielman is staying put.
Spielman was in play to be the next general manager of the New York Jets, having interviewed for the job on January 11. The Jets are going in a different direction, as they are reportedly hiring Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey, per Josina Anderson.
Spielman has been Special Assistant to President/CEO and Chairperson since 2021 and played a key role in the hiring of head coach Dan Campbell and executive vice president/general manager Brad Holmes.
Spielman also remains the all-time leading tackler in Lions history with 1,138. He played eight seasons in Detroit after they selected him 29th overall in the 1988 NFL Draft.
After his playing career, Spielman spent time in the media as a broadcaster with FOX and ESPN.
