Chris Rock takes aim at Meghan Markle over racism claims in Oprah interview

Chris Rock took aim at Meghan Markle in his first stand-up special since being slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars.

The comic hit out at the Duchess of Sussex for using an interview with Oprah Winfrey to accuse the royal family of being racist in his live Netflix stand-up special on Saturday night.

Rock alluded to Meghan as hitting “the light-skinned lottery” and said the incident was some “in-law s***”

“Some of that s*** she went through was not racism. It was just some in-law s***,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s just some in-law s*** because she’s complaining, I’m like ‘What the f*** is she talking about?’”

Meghan told Oprah last year that when she was pregnant with Archie an unnamed member of the royal family raised “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born”.

“You didn’t Google these mother**kers?” Rock asked incredulously.

“What the f**k is she talking about she didn’t know?

“’Oprah, they’re so racist they wanted to know how brown the baby was going to be,’” he mocked.

“I’m like, ‘That’s not racist, because even black people want to know how brown the baby going to be.’”

Rock, 58, also addressed last year’s Oscars in his show Selective Outrage, which was broadast live from the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore in the US.

Smith sparked controversy after storming the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and slapping Rock over a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

“You know what people say, they say, ‘words hurt,’” Rock said. “Anybody that say words hurt has never been punched in the face.”

He added: “People were like, did it hurt? It still hurts. I got Summertime ringing in my ears.

“I took that hit like (Manny) Pacquiao,” Rock boasted to cheers from the crowd.

Rock said he believes Smith practices “selective outrage” and that the slap had more to do with Smith and his wife’s relationship struggles than the actual joke.

The couple have been open about their relationship problems and have addressed infidelity within their marriage during public interviews.

“We’ve all been cheated on, everybody in here been cheated on, none of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television,” Rock joked.

“She hurt him way more than he hurt me.”

Rock ended the special by addressing why he chose not to fight back.

“I got parents! Because I was raised!” Rock said. “And you know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of white people.”
