Chris Mueller sets Hibs goals target as he admits relief at breaking duck against Arbroath

Chris Mueller is confident the goals will start to flow now he’s broken his duck for Hibs.

The American put the seal on Sunday’s 3-1 Scottish Cup victory at Arbroath when he bundled home Chris Cadden’s cross in the 87th minute after climbing off the bench.

It was his first strike in Scottish football in his seventh appearance for Shaun Maloney ’s side.

But former Orlando City forward Mueller is confident it can be the first of many after settling into his new home.

He said: “It feels really good to score my first goal.

“I’ve felt more and more comfortable with each game I have played for Hibs so it feels really good to get on the scoresheet and most importantly help the team get a good win.

“There was a nice little sequence of play down the left-hand side. The ball got switched over to Cadds who made a great run in behind as he does so many times.

"He clipped the ball into the back post, the defender made a bit of a mess of it in end and luckily I was there to pounce.

“Hopefully there will be plenty more goals to come."

The 25-year-old was signed by Maloney’s predecessor Jack Ross after catching the eye in the MLS.

In total he netted 22 times in 126 appearances for Orlando but it was his creativity outside the box which was also lauded by Ross when he agreed a pre-contract last summer.

Mueller was made to wait six months to get his Hibs career up and running in January.

Now he’s desperate to make up for lost time by firing himself into Maloney’s starting XI on a regular basis and helping Hibs climb the table.

Mueller said: “I’ve looked forward to getting my first goal a lot. To finally score and get a win was really good.

“Now I’m looking forward to helping this team and this club keep moving in the right direction.”
