Chris Mueller has thanked Hibs for the support after he completed his move back to the MLS.
The forward joined in January but struggled to make an impact, scoring just one goal for the goal.
Believed to be the highest paid player at the club, it was a disappointing impact from someone Hibs expected to help them up the Premiership table.
He's now returned to the MLS and joined Chicago Fire and he insists Hibs will always be special to him despite his move to Easter Road not working out.
Sharing a message on social media, the 25-year-old said: “It was short-lived, but I’m extremely grateful for everything and everyone I met during my time in Edinburgh.
"Thank you Hibernian FC for the opportunity and support. Hibs will always have a special place in my heart.
"A part of my journey I’ll never forget.
"Thank you, Hibees. All love.”
Speaking about the decision to allow Mueller to leave, Ben Kensell said: "Unfortunately this move didn't work out the way the club or Chris wanted.
"Chris has worked extremely hard in training since he arrived but has found it difficult to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Scottish Premiership, which has severely limited his game time."Ultimately, he wants to play football regularly and when the opportunity came about for him to play for his hometown side, it was something he didn't want to turn down and we were happy to work with all parties to make this happen.
"For us, it was vital that this deal made complete sense for the club and alongside this, it has also freed up a significant amount financially that the incoming manager will be able to use to mould the squad in their way."
