Chris Moyles has been widely criticised for his on-air rant in which he labelled "most unsigned musicians cr*p".
His outburst came after he was called out for not giving up and coming artists enough airtime on his Radio X morning show.
The DJ, 48, took offence to the comment made on Twitter the day before in which a user criticised his show for not being able to find time to play new music while they could spend a chunk of time to talk about an exercise bike.
In response, the former I'm A Celeb star said "that's not what this show is all about".
After continuing to mimic those who ask why he doesn't play lesser heard tunes, he added: "And the real reason is, and this will blow their tiny minds and they'll hate this, the reason why we won't play unsigned bands is because - and there are exceptions to the rule - but the main reason is that most unsigned bands are c**p.
"I'm sorry, but that's the truth."
Sharing his speech to Twitter, one user slammed: "Shocking from @ChrisMoyles . ‘Most unsigned bands are c**p’.
"Don’t call yourself a DJ when you’re not interested in discovering new music. Outed yourself once again as a completely insipid half-wit."
Another user berated the star: "The comments made by Chris Moyles are insensitive, and just completely f***ing wrong. Does he not realise the sacrifice songwriters and bands make?
"Mentally, emotionally physically, and financially. Most of us spend every waking hour thinking about music developing new ideas and calculating how much money it’s going to cost to record, mix, master, distribute and promote our music.
"Only to be told ‘most of us are s**t’ by a prominent radio DJ."
And a third wrote: "lost all respect for Chris Moyles after he just said that most unsigned bands are ‘c**p’…"
A fourth added: "I don't like the term "unsigned"... it highlights a negative... but... There was a great opportunity for a presenter to big up the station's platforms for new music. Missed opportunity, and a massive fail from one of the biggest names in radio."
However, trying to balance the argument, another said: "Not sticking up for Chris Moyles but the fact people think a breakfast show DJ on a national commercial radio station has any say on what gets played is a big worry. He’s wrong to come out with some of the stuff he did right enough, but hardly a surprise he’s acted like that."
