Chris McKay provides update on 'exciting' Celtic Barrowfield development

Celtic's chief financial officer Chris McKay has provided an update on the redevelopment of the Barrowfield Training Centre.

The Scottish champions announced in September that they would be turning the site into a state-of-the-art complex for the club's boys and girls academies, as well as the base for the women's team.

The complex will see a new indoor arena built, with a combination of grass and astroturf pitches also being laid down.

And now McKay has revealed the latest behind the "exciting" project. He said: "It's very imminent. We've been putting in a lot of work over a long period of time now.

"And the good news is that the contractors take possession of the site in December next month.

"It's an exciting project for the boys academy, the girls academy and it will be a base for the women's team.

"So it will be a first-class facility which will serve the club for years to come and we're really excited about it."

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Celtic's concerns about VAR will be raised at a meeting with the SFA tomorrow.

It comes after the club have previously questioned the implementation of the technology.

At the Parkhead side's AGM, chief executive Michael Nicholson explained the club’s communication with the governing body over refereeing and VAR - and revealed that there's a meeting TOMORROW on the subject.

"It’s an important issue. We need to be mindful of our responsibilities with officials. We ask the SFA for fairness and transparency.

"We have worked with the SFA to improve refereeing and VAR. There’s a meeting tomorrow to discuss this.”

And Rodgers, who has previously stated he would "get rid" of the technology if he could, confirmed the Scottish champions' concerns would be raised at the meeting.

"We can do that, we have representatives from the club that will be there, unfortunately for us it is within our training schedule and timing so yeah they will represent the club there.

"I think it is a year where they will assess it and look at it, I've been seeing it for a few more years down south and I will focus on the football.

"We have got dialogue here at the club and the views that get represented from Michael and Chris [Mckay] that go will be representative of what we think."
