Chris Martin shocks commuters by getting the train to Cardiff for massive Coldplay Principality Stadium gig

When big stars perform at the Principality Stadium they are normally helicoptered in or chauffeur-driven to the venue - not Chris Martin. The Coldplay frontman shocked commuters by taking the train to Cardiff Central.

The chart-topping band are performing in Cardiff for two sell-out nights this week as part of their Music of the Spheres tour.

At the weekend they took over the Etihad Stadium in Manchester with a riot of colour and confetti as they performed to thousands of music fans.

On Monday, Chris, whose estimated net worth of £160 million, appeared to take a Transport for Wales train from Manchester to Cardiff Central. Dressed in a grey T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and a baseball capture he appeared to go largely unnoticed.

He was captured mingling with other commuters and when he clocked a member of staff filming on the platform, he came over to say hello as he arrived in the city.

The singer, who is a keen environmentalist, came to say hello and the man filming said: "Thanks Chris. Wow."

Fans were quick to praise his low-key entrance. One said: "Brilliant entrance by Chris love it!"

Another simply said: "The best."

The band will be taking to the stage at the Principality Stadium on Tuesday, June 6 and Wednesday, June 7, performing in front of thousands of fans in the Welsh capital.

There will be two support acts, including a local artist, performing before Coldplay begin their set. Gates for the Principality Stadium will open at 5pm both days.

Meanwhile, some fans have been queuing to get for the gig since early on Tuesday. James Walls, Lewis Branwen and Hannah Barten have been outside the Principality Stadium since 6am.

James Walls, 21 from Cornwall, said: “My mum is having a nice lie in at the hotel but when she gets here we’ll swap. I’ve brought a load of signs and everything to get their attention.”
